I was so pleased when i realised todays Thursday Theme of wheels linked to some more of my US photos.
Ched took me to Coney Island - oh we had such a blast!
And I hadn't realised, until I was thinking about this theme post, how many pictures i'd taken which featured the Wonder Wheel.
We arrived in pretty good weather - warm, a mixture of sunshine and cloud.
And then the sky began to darken
By the time we got to the shore the wheel had stopped turning - all the rides were stopped as the wind increased.
And then the rain started.
It rained and rained
and we had a blast.
This last picture is taken from the train, on our way damply back into Manhattan

Did you ride on the Wonder Wheel? We are going to Coney Island this weekend. Hope it doesn't rain!
Great pics, Letty! You even managed to get its reflected image in that huge puddle, great work!
how fun! wonderful pics! when I visited coney island it was off season so almost like going in the rain....
is the london eye still about? was almost going to put up a pic of that, but I would of had to have scanned it - too much work for 2day.
xxx
I love Ferris wheels. The bigger, the better. We'll be in NYC next week to see Hair in Central Park, but doubt we will find the time for Coney Island! You've just given me a first-class tour anyway.
Brill photos lady, you seem to capture the moment so well.
These are perfect. What great, different views of the same iconic wheel. And a reflection, to boot! Yes, perfect.
great wonder wheel shots! i especially love the last one, because I love the subway (even after all these years I still love the subways the way I did when I was a little kid. ) I took just one rainy shot of the wonder wheel that day... yours are fabulous!!! I also tried for that reflection but mine did not turn out at all. These are great shots--like Tut Tut said all the different views.
Yeah, all the rides stopped running when we got there. Later I tried to get tickets for the tunnel of horror, since it was an "indoor" sort of ride, but it was closed too--there had been some lightening and thunder, so everyone just closed up. We did eat boardwalk food and went into one of the arcades...
Wow these pictures are beautiful! Of course I love the reflection pic, but all of them are gritty and Coney Island-ish and surreal.
Wow!! Bravo, for reinventing the wheel!
These photos are wheelly nice.
You got some great shots m'dear, so glad you had a great day. :)
Oh I adore those pictures, love the one in the puddle, and the one peeking out between the grotty old buildings. I've never been to Coney Island myself.... maybe one day. I'm not sure I'd go on the wheel though, I usually like to keep my feet firmly on the ground.
i like the puddle one too
i would love to have taken a ride in the tunnel of horror with you both!
I love Coney Island--it's always filled with happy people--even in the rain it's colors and candy apples!
Oh and tons of kids running around enjoying themselves! It's really one of the best amusement parks --My personal favorite, anyway.
thanks everyone - i woz pleased wiv my pics!
lynne, as ched said, the rides were all shut coz of the weather. look forward to hearing about your trip.
kim, the london eye is still there
pod, we'd have loved that too.
Ferris Wheels are an amazing 'wonder' indeed and one that I am sure we have taken for granted. You can read all about how they came about during the Chicago World's Fair in that fantastic book "The Devil in the White City" (which made Steve's recent reading list).
Mark and I recently took a ride on one and took pictures. Darn it, I missed another Theme Thursday.
I was on a double Ferris wheel once. Just once.
I love ferris wheels.
I love to stand on the ground and look up at them.
Wonderful pics. :D
Looks and sounds like it was a great trip! ; )
Having just made my first visit to Coney Island (sunny and hot, sorry), it was fun to read about your experience and see your photos. You really have a great eye for great photos. I enjoyed them very much!
Wow, Lettuce, you have some awesome shots here - brilliant stuff!
