Not what I was going to blog about, but i'm taking my sweet time to sort out the loads of photos I took in London last week, with RW. So in the meantime, here are some I prepared earlier.
Of birds
- in the skies of London.
Pigeons.....
...of course.
Sparrows....
... also "of course". The original cockneys. But apparently rare in some parts of England now.
Actually I suppose the pigeons might claim to be the original cockneys.
I expect the pigeons and the sparrows feud over that.
Green parakeet.....
Surprisingly enough.
Thats a starling, next to it. Almost camouflaged by comparison.
Robin....
.... ah bless!
And of course, the eagle.....
?????

i did larf at that. the eagle.
but i did not larf when i heard that you fancy paul daniels
i don't know what to say.......
pod...i said he was a catch that 'millionaire' paul daniels - not that we fancied him! (oh no i'm in trouble with letty now)
yes, that eagle - what a shock i got! Then i looked closer.. Funny!
I personally love the Robin... Le rouge-gorge. So beautiful!
I love the robin too, but a green parakeet in London?
Lovely pics! I've been trying to get a pic of the robins who seem quite shy - maybe it's just DC robins who avoid the paparazzi.
We call our pidgeons "rats of the sky." Like seagulls, they are coarse. I think they're all named "Randy" - but I could be wrong.
Is that parakeet just out in the wild??
Suff london has always had the best birds........
I can't believe those birds in Charlton??? we have a stork who site by the pool (really) and a woody woodpecker who pops in now and then.. Paul Daniels Letty???
I was all impressed with myself because I identified the starling before I read it! (I don't know why this should give me any satisfaction, but it does.)
The green parakeet is very odd. Isn't it a bit cold for a parakeet to be on the loose in London?
I wonder if that eagle is some kind of decoy. Here in the states people mount fake birds of prey (like great horned owls) onto buildings to keep away the smaller birds. I'm not sure it ever works. I think birds are smarter than that.
so that's a robin! i'll post one soon.
"what is that james like?"
what?
I don't see anything wrong with having a will drawn up ahead of time. I've never had dental surgery but I've seen plenty of movies where an insane power-hungry, drug-induced dentist drills too far into his patient so he can feed the corpses to his pigeons. They're rats with wings, and like rats, they can peck every last piece of human flesh off the bone. (you should think where your loyalties lie: pigeons or lettuce - you can't propagate both.)
in other news, we apparently had a fake owl on top of our apartment building...i didn't know of it until i made a friend with someone in a neighboring building and his family told me they had been staring at an owl on my building for a month. They had only recently come to the conclusion that it was definitely a statue.
so these statues can work...scare pigeons and neighbours away. (however, even if i thought that that American Bald Eagle was real, I'd be more afraid of it knocking its pet rock off the ledge than its talons. Is there also a Frisbee next to it? Who are these cruel people?)
where's that first church?
Pod (and RW) (and Tat) I'll only say this one more time: Nononononononononononono.
NO
Stop Now. Its just WRONG.
Cream & Akelamalu - isn't he lovely? and why do I always assume robins are male? poss. cos my first serious bf was called Robin. He didn't have a rouge-gorge tho.
And yes, Tut-tut green parakeets wild in Londinium. Naturalised, not a very unusual sight, tho I'd not seen one in our garden before.
Reya. you are funny - I will now always think of them as Randy.
Martin, you do say the nicest things ;o)
Steve, that explanation hadn't occurred to me. I think that makes it even funnier.
I will check, James, to see if its a frisbee. I think I'd assumed it was water for the eagle. Will you post a pic. of your owl? church query - answered in comments to the previous. (all pics of the same church). In the meantime, I'm re-thinking my priorities....
Well, you could've made it rouge with kisses, you know...;o)
One of our barmen is called Robin too. Yes, all Robins are definitely male.
Excellent photos Letty. That Robin doesn't look like he's in London Tho?! With the holly next to him he could be posing for a Christmas Card :-)
i bet he is 'majic' in the bedroom (the j was on purpose)
i lived in charlton very briefly before i left london too!
x
Green parakeet? I didn't know they were native to London. My gawd, you'll be posting pics of eagles next.... What? You already did???? Stone the crows....
Cream, I'm sure the thought would never have occurred to me, young and innocent as I was.
Dons yes, i think he was posing. Was in Greenwich Park on Queen Elizabeth (Ist)'s Oak. I suspect robins know how picturesque they are.
Pod. Cut that out.
Ex-Shammi haha. Off to photograph crows.... aark aark.
