Its beach weather here in beach-less London.
Actually, thats not quite true, there is a beach (bizarrely) on the Thames.
Be that as it may, I'm posting a series of family beach photos weekly for Sepia Saturday.
This is my grandfather - "Little grandad", my mothers dad - also to be seen here and here
And my nan....
and my mum (right) with her cousin Lily.
All these (except the first) in Folkestone in the late 1930's.

I didn't know the Thames had a beach!
It's amazing how they used to wear so many clothes on the beach in those days isn't it?
Oh, and look at those wonderful parasols!
great idea celebrating the summer and sepia saturday with old beach photos!
i think i'll jump on this bandstand and join in the fun. been a long time since i played along with sepia saturday, i seem to have lots of beach shots of my folks when they were young.
I didn't know the Thames had a beach, either. And I love the parasols. Someone in last week's SS showed a photo of a lady with a parasol. That must have been common. Love the photos!
The shots at the beach are so fun. They really did have a good time there and wore what was expected of them. I am sure they were desperate to find a warm day to go to the beach.
Really love the shot with the parasols.
I wonder the year of the parasol photos in particular....riverside or beach? Interesting attire and they are enjoying themselves...
I am headed to the beach tomorrow. Yippee!!
Great photos...Unfortunately, we're not having beach weather here, just hot and rainy!
oh! I do Like to be beside the seaside ! Great Photos .I like those parasols!
That Nan looks like a pretty tough cookie!
I am sure there are about four set poses for seaside photos in Britain in the 1930s. I have similar photos - different people, different seaside, same pose. Fine photos.
I"ve actually come here three times and been distracted from commenting for one reason or another. Beach? Where?
I wouldn't fancy swimming in the Thames frankly but love your sepia shots. . I'm still trying to find the beach?
We had a couple of those paper Japanese style sun umbrellas when I was a kid, I have pictures of me sitting under it with my dress tucked into my knickers!
Beach weather here too, 30C at 8:30pm as I write this!
enjoy your beach day!
