My next few posts feature pictures from an exhibition (oooh reminds me of some music) at the good old V & A.
Firstly, 'Conditions' by Annie Cattrell
glass blocks etched (?) on the inside (how on earth did she do it? there were no marks on the external surfaces).
like space, breath, mist, wind, clouds, rain, tears, dreams -
"I choose the familiar, for example a cloud, so whatever language you speak there is a kind of universal understanding. It is the transformation and freezing into three-dimensions of this iconographic subject matter that interests me: what happens when you contemplate something you think you know but shouldn't really be seeing this way. This three-dimensional vantage point allows the viewer to examine the subtle shifts and rhythms which ceaselessly occur in the natural world and within the body." Annie Cattrell
full of light
these were exquisite
i could have sat and looked at them all day.

Quite beautiful. I remember taking my daughter to the V & A museum a few years ago. We had a lovely day there.
amazing, lettuce. And yes - how DOES she do that? etch the inside?
A.M.A.Z.I.N.G.! They're beautiful.
I was going to say "amazing," but someone already said it.
Oh, hell. AMAZING!!
I'm also very glad to hear that Marigold has company. :)
What a useful blog you're running, Lettuce. ;))
A must see. I always forget the V & A have got a glass gallery.
PS: I like the way the 'do not touch' is just written onto the plinth thingey.
Gorgeous! They remind me of my crystal balls. Wow!!
Thank you!
breathtaking. i wish i could have seen these. there are few things in the world that can capture your mind and imagination and can hold you there for hours ... this looks like one of them.
wild!! it's like there are little universes in each block. I don't know why but cattrell's work makes me think of masaru emoto's water crystal work....
I look forward to the rest of your series!
I love the repeating reflection in the third picture, is that you?
But..... "Do not touch"?
Whatever happened to "Please"?
And please please can you tell me how to do that dotted line question mark alternative comment thingy?
PS I tagged you for a little linky love - hope you don't mind. :0
Thought provoking...
Simply stunning!
When you've been away for a bit, you manage to return with elan. Once again, you have found, captured, and posted for us the results of your trip to another planet of imagination. This places those of us who are your regulars in the awful dialectic of wanting you to be off for a while, hopeful of such wonderful returns or having you about for more frequent observations. Ah, what a high-class problem your regulars have.
This artwork is so beautiful --it reminds me of the Yoko Ono exhibit I went to years ago. Her art before meeting John Lennon was so much like this, dreamy crystal hopeful optimistic stuff, some of it very spiritual, some weird things that made you think differently-- her later stuff (after Lennon's death) was brass and metal and wood lots of heavy looking dark items--she redid some of the crystal items in flat black.
I do like etched glass though--guess everyone would want to touch those.
Oh W.O.W!
Beautiful! I especially love that last photo.
Brilliant ... (both the glass and the photo)
;)
Lovely Letty, like you xx
Dennis likes to run and jump and hear crashing noises behind Dennis as Dennis heads off for new adventures!
the V&A is great Deb.
Lee, lama & steve, yes, isn't it.
(no don't mind, lama - tho i tend to ignore tags, so hope you don't mind)
sally i liked that too. :o)
yes, Reya, i can see why they would. and your new pic is sooooooooo cute.
cinn & kimy - i think its that enclosed universe thing that gave them their attraction and fascination
