During my last weekend with them, my mother was well enough for a couple of hours out in the sunshine. We visited Sheffield Park Gardens in Sussex, designed originally by Capability Brown, and now a National Trust property. Its mostly grass parkland with wonderful trees and shrubs, and quite a lot of water - lakes and falls. The trees weren't quite at their Autumnal peak, but were still stunning.
Some pictures follow - easier than words.
And in the midst of it all, my mother whizzing around like a little old lady dalek.

Gorgeous photos Lettuce. I love the trunks of trees. They have always fascinated me. The colours are beautiful but not quite autumnal yet are they? Good, this fantastic weather we are having can continue as far as I am concerned.
Can't wait to meet you on the 9th :-)
Hi Sweetie
Love the photos - you're a good photographer, aren't you?
The last shot is very moving....
Those scooters are great, aren't they? Quite a few people use them at the sheltered housing scheme that I manage. They really whip around, don't they? I'm tempted to get one for myself! hee hee
~(:o})=
If getting older means having one of those fab wheelie things then I
can't wait...:-)
That one tree trunk looks like it has a spooky face inside it...really very Harry Potterish.

so incredibly beautiful.
probably much like your mother.
oh, those trees! that second pic - such an inviting room those tree trunks make.
(i posted a revision of home on my blog this morning - before i saw your comments on the original -thank you.)
lovely pics Lettie. Love your mum's hat....great 'off road' thingy she's driving. BIG WHEELS!
Wonderful photos. But why are these places in the wrong location? Why is Sheffield park in Sussex? Leeds Castle is in Kent isn't it? It's just daft.
That gnarly tree trunk is something else! Like something out of a Rackham painting.
thanx everyone, glad you like the pics. The little buggy was great, I really wanted a go. Though Mum said it was funny how some people were obviously being careful not to meet her eyes.
Le Chat - its probably down to the celts trying to mislead the invading vikings or anglo saxons - like moving road signs around during the war.
Wow, that looks like a really cool place to discover.
Hi! thanks for leaving your (other) blog site - looking forward to the swap!
your pictures are lovely!
Beautiful post. I love the picture of your mother. It says so much... mobility, freedom, the gift of strength to enjoy the outdoors, independence. So many things we take for granted until illness hits and knocks our socks off.
Those photos are just beautiful Lettie.
oh you're all so nice!
will try and post something new soon....
Yes... lovely photos! I especially love the one of your Mum! :O)
Lovely pictures of the park and of LG (sorry Demon Child) - thankyou for all of your kind words of support. Lots of love to you allxxx
some lovely pics. you have quite an eye. does your mum have a special buggy for cross country japes? or is that her monster truck car crushing version. geez those wheels! haha
monster truck car crushing - hahaha!
Unfortunately the buggy belongs to Sheffield Park/National Trust, otherwise all the family would be having fun with it.
Some of those tress are quite spooky...that willowy one reminds me of Gollum for some reason.
she should have souped (?) it up, revved it up and broken thru the barriers into the distance! go back and steal one!!
If you click on my comment it should take you to the new url. Sorry about this.
Sorry about the url too - not what you want at the moment. But there is a lot of it about. Hope she is OK.
xxx
Glad that your Mum was well enough for the visit to Sheffield Park Gardens, it looks really lovely and tranquil.
Those buggy's are really good arn't they, give independance and reserve some much needed energy.
Your photos are absolutely gorgeous as usual. I do love big trees, well most trees actually.
