Back in the days when I had access to a swimming pool, I always found doing laps a great help in dealing with whelming - be it over, under or just plain regular strength.
Hope it subsides soon for you, letty. Life gets snarly sometimes. Myself, I just snarl right back.

Dennis was overwhelmed by love and unrequited love but now he's thinking of dusting himself off and getting back to the business of being himself again.

That's not like a whelk, is it? That would be a mollusc, which would make this post really surreal.
But I suppose even molluscs need a break now and then.
