Sepia beach 4

My great grandparents, Albert and Elizabeth Jiggins.

and with their daughter, Auntie (Great-Aunt) Queen.

These would have been 1920's, the 2nd picture is in Margate, possibly the first too.

Oh what fabulous photo's. I loved the clothes from that era.Isn't it wonderful how they enjoyed the beach fully clothed. You are so blessed to have these. A great memory.

Your Auntie Queen looks like she is holding court in that photo...was Queen her real name?

WOW!!! That top photo is priceless! I'm being reminded of "The Wizard of Oz" for some strange reason. I think it's the rather stern look on her face.
The bottom photo is a charmer. You're so lucky to have these! I'm very envious.

Oh, now I remember something else; the name "Jiggins" really makes me think of characters in Dickens's work.

Were they too proper to don a swimming costume?

Both photographs are priceless, but the first is my favourite.

In the first photograph Elizabeth looks very determined, as though she has a Specific Destination in mind (and possibly not with happy circumstances afteward).

The beach photos of the time period always amaze with people fully clothed, sitting in the son. These are wonderful photos.

Love these photos, the dress of the era is fantastic.

I can't imagine going to the beach if full dress.

Elizabeth and Albert seem very serious - but not Auntie Queen! Charming and beautiful.

What a hat she has upon her head and what a stride in the first photo (your grt. grndmther) and the 2nd posing at the beach. I just imagine how they might have thought they were relaxing! Wonder who snapped the photos!!

I have just realized what a treasure your Blog will be to generations to come since you have pulled together bits and pieces from your family history so nicely. It's a real treasure trove of photos!

What outfits to wear to the beach. They look grand. It actually dates them as the daughter looks like two generations away instead of one. They are such wonderful pictures.

How extraordinary. Have you ever seen a picture of Sidney and Beatrice Webb, if not, Google one. Such a likeness!

I have a VERY similar one of my Grandparents on the Kent strand somewhere circa 1922 - right down to the handwritten number on the front. Maybe I'll run it next week.

Albert George Jiggins married Elizabeth Ann Mundy, the marriage was registered at West Ham in the March Quarter of 1895.
