sepia stan

This is just a quickie, as I am off to a seminar all of today.

Last weeks Sepia pics. were of Uncle Stan's mum and grandparents, in great hats.
This is Uncle Stan - my great Uncle.

I think he stayed home during the war because he worked for Ford, so was counted as essential to the war effort in that role - but here he is in his uniform. Looking, I thought, a little bit Bing!

I'll post more about Stan next week.

I notice Stan has three stripes. Which outfit was he a sergeant in, I wonder?

Handsome man, your Uncle Stan...will await further details.

His expertise was probably very important to get the war machines ready for battle. It would be a waste to take him away from what he could do so well.

Yes, I think that is a Home Guard uniform, I recognise it because my father too was in the Home Guard. It might even predate the Home Guard name (previous to August 1940 they were known as the LDV or Local Defence Volunteers. My father was in the LDV as well and always claimed that the initials stood for Look Duck and Vanish.
