postcard from Brighton

M and I took a brief 3 day break in Brighton (English south coast) 2 weeks ago, while LG was in France with a school trip.

As we unwound a bit from work pressures, some worries about the future surfaced and we experienced and talked through anxieties about the changes our life is going through in relation to employment, income...

Big grown up stuff.

Being grown up sucks sometimes.

Our first afternoon in Brighton was rainy. But our mood brightened despite the damp.

And after the rain, came the sunshine.

and the summer evening sea was wonderful

As we returned home, on the train back from London Bridge to south London, the sky was just extraordinary.

The dramatically dark cloud threatened storm and worse, it truly glowered.
But beneath that was the promise of a clear evening and fair weather ahead.

I see Brighton specializes in tasteful postcards.

Anxieties, money, facts, facts, facts: I agree, being an adult is truly not the best part of being all grown-up.

Wishing you plenty of fair weather, lettuce.

Rain is good -- washes the slate clean. Pretty pictures afterward.
And why Benthams' skin in that museum?
I had re-acquaint myself with him being an English utilitarian.Perhaps the first minimilist?

He seemed familiar and I realized that I had read some of his writing in an old class on ethics. That is as far as the memory went, however.

I do like Brighton. Fond memories of times past.

I hope your anxieties were allayed a little.

hi lettuce! Finally got your page to load( thanks blooger...)! And it's good to be the grown-up, that we can get a way from it all, if just for a while, yes? And fancy those postal cards, I do :) Cheers!

Great pics, Letty. Love the bikes on the bridge. That storm looks ominous! Glad it wasn't!

'being grown up sucks sometimes'....I totally agree. I was just telling my oldest who is starting college in 2 weeks that he is starting a wonderful stage of life...an adult, with not so much responsibility that it begins to weigh him down ...and yet, old enough to really feel some independence and have fun making his own decisions. Sigh.

Love the pics, especially the bikes.

Crazily, my one memory of Brighton was buying a toast holder, one of those things you see on every proper British breakfast table. I vaguely remember walking along the beach and thinking it must have been a fine place in its heyday.
