short

My posts have been rather lengthy of late...

I don't mean them to be. Its just, once I'm started, I tend to go on...

I plan to write shorter posts for a while
(all other things being equal)
(equal=short?)

which will be fitting as we are now officially into shorter winter days.

Here is London - embankment and around Charing Cross - between the hours of about 5.30 and 7.30 last week.

We put the clocks back last night.
I'm glad for LG who may get some daylight before she arrives at school in the mornings, but less glad for myself as I'll be cycling home from work in darkness more regularly.

But - at least for a few days - I'll be arriving home to tea and cake

though it'll be tempting to make rather short work of it.

oh, nice seeing the moving traffic, almost felt like being back in London again.

Can you figure exactly what is gained by this business of having to readjust the body clock like this? If you do, please let me know.

the cake looks wonderful. Yes please, with whatever tea you're having.

best

Love all the photos, for different reasons. That moon one is superb. I've been missing my Ched Film Festival installments, so I especially appreciate your London traffic short.

Cake looks good. I have a burn on both arms from kitchen wrangling.

What are the squiggly lines in the road? Does it mean "swerve here"? :) Nice shots!

Yum, that cake looks delish. Apple? Ginger? or?

I hate this time of year I feel like a pit pony - going to work in the dark and coming home in the dark! :(

Love your pictures.

Right. That's it. I insist you invite me round for cake. :O)

I totally disapprove... totally, of this whole GMT stuff.

Although I enjoy having a mean time in Greenwich as much as the next person.

Love that moon pic! :O)

forgot to add that we change time next week and I am not really looking forward to dark coming on so early!

You make me yearn to visit London...(& eat cake).

I love those scenes of London in the twilight, I've always found it so gorgeous.
Fortunately we don't have to contend with moving clocks backwards and forwards. Attempts to do so would, I'm sure, result in total nationwide chaos!
;-)

The photos make me want to go to London. Is the first near the big Ferris wheel? The cake is making me incredibly hungry. I have nothing so glorious to eat with my afternoon tea.

You're so clever! Please dear Lettuce, go on! And on and on.

Your honeycake is much prettier than mine was (though mine was delicious, thanks for the recipe).

Love the sundowner tour of London. Thank you!!

short or long I will never have enough lettuce in my diet!!

love the pics of london...this wkend our clocks go back.... the days are getting shorter but they'll not be as short as london seeing you have a few degrees of (northern) latitude on us!

cake looks yummy and I don't usually go for cake - but I think that one I'd enjoy a slice of!

Your posts are great, Lettuce, because they're always so visual. No one would accuse you of going on too long. (Well, maybe someone somewhere would, but they're wrong. :) )

Cake...mmmmm!

Lynn asked my question: Why the zig-zaggy lines in the road? We have nothing like that in the states and I can't imagine what it might mean.

well, rlb, i now know more about the history of BST than i used to. this is quite interesting. I didn't know we'd mucked about with the clocks quite so much.... I'm not convinced by this "wasting useful daylight" business though. It all sounds rather protestant and work-ethicy.

Tut, my mum used to regularly have oven-wrangling burns on her wrists, and, actually, so did i quite often, i'd forgotten ... maybe i'm more careful these days

swerve here? v. funny lynne. Swerve and hit a pedestrian for extra points. I think they mean look out, pedestrians, slow down, no stopping/parking. The cake is honey cake (with almond in it too)

poor you lamalu. (hee hee that rhymes). I'm only usually in darkness one way or the other, not both... commiserations to you.

trac. come round and eat cake. please. but not in a mean way.

chick - please also come! and eat cake!

Vanilla, I'm guessing its a purely European/antipodean thing? (which might support the protestant work ethic theory...)

barbara, the pics were all taken from the Hungerford bridge - Charing Cross - and the London Eye would have been pretty much directly behind me on the south bank.

ah, thanks reya dear. Wasn't it yummy??

Kimy, I'm glad this time of year not to live in Scotland...

steve you're too kind. I can't imagine you having the zigzags in the USA as your traffic seems to take no notice at all of pedestrians. ;0)

Awwwww! Those views have made me homesick for London.
I'll have to get another visit in soon - the last one was with Donna and Jazz AND Saff (who I'm visiting in the US soon, to cuddle her brand new baby)

We all had a lovely time together there ....

~(:o})=

thanks for the link. So basically, we all must readjust our internal clocks because one man figured "early to rise" should apply to everyone during the summertime. Or something. : - /

GOW! how lovel;y to see your not at all grumpy face here! :-D
I'd always do my best to be free for a cup of tea, if you were visiting london....

yup, rlb. thats how it seems.
:-/ indeed

I have a recipe for a cake with almonds & lots of butter called Sunshine cake (translated from German Sonnenschein Kuche), yours looks like arriving home to sunshine.

Hello Lettuce!

artsparker your recipe sounds delish. This cake has lots of ground almonds in it, then spoonfuls of honey over the top straight from the oven so it soaks in.... m,mmmmmm
