cake

This week's Thursday Theme is unexpectedly apt, because our house is more than usually full of baked goods.

Bought by my in-laws who are staying this week, there is an array of cakes, tarts, doughnuts, biscuits and muffins around the kitchen and in the fridge and there are about 4 different kinds of bread wedged into the bread-bin.

Fortunately for my waist-line, they are not really the kinds of cakes, tarts, doughnuts, biscuits and bread to tempt me. Though I have enjoyed the odd muffin.

Just the odd one.

Oh and a bit of tiffin yesterday.

or maybe two bits....

oh alright, three.

Quite unrelatedly, here some photos of our autumn which has been, on the whole, brightly blue and full of crunchy sunshine.

Oh and as I typed that an extraordinarily large bumble bee was tapping at the window right next to me. Winter seems a long long way off, despite the falling leaves.

In fact, the Autumn theme and the baked goods theme may not be entirely unrelated after all.
I do tend to feel more than ordinarily inclined to make cakes in the autumn.

I haven't acted on this inclination yet.

But....

freshly baked ginger cake in front of an open fire....

mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Ooo, that custard tart lurking in the background looks GOOD. I haven't had one of those for yonks.

Coincidentally, though, we had chocolate muffins yesterday.

Mmmmmm and I had a rather nice lemon and poppy seed cake yesterday and made a right mess with it as I was driving at the same time.

Loved your comment on your previous post - 'Hand Luggage' :O)

Lovely leaves and shadows; I agree with dumdad about that custard tart . . .

We are having early voting here, and lines are snaking out the door! Can't be so many people are eager for doddery McC and scary P, now can they?? The infinite O, I think, is more like it.

"crunchy" sunshine - I know just what you mean.

Exquisite pics! And ginger cake? YUM. Today I'm going to try making the honeycake. I'll let you know how it turns out.

mass produced packaged baked goods don't tempt me either...however, a freshly baked ginger cake - that is an entirely different matter indeed!

beautiful bright autumn days! glorious photos .....

I'm not a big cake or sweet fan but you could tempt me with a piece of Malt Loaf smothered in butter!

Love those photo Lettie, they're beautiful.

Ooh, I love that golden leafiness - and you're right, it does look like you're having a lovely autumn, a late one, a bit like the one two years ago.
And at last, I know what tiffin is - I think tiffin and I might become good friends!

Your photos of the leaves are so good. We are experiencing some good weather just now here in the north, it won't last long though.

What exactly makes sunshine crunchy?

lusks said...

It didn't. Blowing a gale here today and all the leaves are swirling here, would pop out and take a phot but it's raining too.
