B S T

Brits can get a bit snotty about other people 'aving a go at our weather.

British independence and self-sufficiency. We're quite capable of doing our own moaning, thankyou very much, indeed we've developed it into quite an art form.

This has been cited as one of the things which makes Britain great :

"Your long tradition of moaning

Visitors to these isles could be forgiven for assuming that the expression "Mustn't grumble" is actually a local truncation of the longer "Mustn't Grumble Any More Than We're Doing Already, Or It Might Get Depressing". The national non-reluctance to complain (not face-to-face of course, but after the fact) means that everything is always a little bit better than you have been led to expect."
Tim Dowling, The Guardian May 11th 2007. Full text

And theres plenty of moaning about the weather going on over here in blighty just now.

We're also inclined to get a bit snotty from wandering stubbornly around in our summer clothes despite the November temperatures and almost constant precipitation.

I'm a bit pissed off (as well as pissed down on) that this vid. isn't better quality, I've been pissing about (what a versatile word) with export and compression settings but to not much avail. If anyone there has advice about this I'd be grateful. So I may replace this with a better version, if I make any progress....

in the meantime, this is BST:

Ducks' Ditty.'

All along the backwater,
Through the rushes tall,
Ducks are a-dabbling,
Up tails all!

Ducks' tails, drakes' tails,
Yellow feet a-quiver,
Yellow bills all out of sight
Busy in the river!

Slushy green undergrowth
Where the roach swim--
Here we keep our larder,
Cool and full and dim.

Everyone for what he likes!
WE like to be
Heads down, tails up,
Dabbling free!

High in the blue above
Swifts whirl and call--
WE are down a-dabbling
Up tails all!

Great video - you're setting trends Letty Pie..I shall have to try this sometime. Maybe the local donkeys standing and breying (sp?) miserably in the rain?

The weather is as bad here and I am moaning too. But I suspect that my grumbles have as much effect on God as water on a ducks back.

If only He'd send the sun - I have washing to do, dammit.

You are beautifully creative.

Although it is not raining today it is only 73 degrees (F) on this Fourth of July. So, my plans to spend the day at the beach have been moved to the boardwalk.
However, I am happy to have a day to myself without needing to be anywhere.
Your humor is lovely and your 'voice' shines through even when pelted by the raindrops.

Sorry for 'aving a go at your weather, Lettie.
It's just that, after 31 years here, I am yet to fathom out which is season is which...

I think I've even started seeing ducks in white coats!
Well done!

Reya Mellicker said...

OMG the vid is brilliant.

Good ... for them??

You're so funny. I lived in Portland, Oregon for a couple of years. The non stop rain 9 months of the year made me go crazy, literally I'm afraid. Your weather gadget shows sunny skies today. Thank god! Hope you get out to soak up some sunshine.

Trac said...

Having stood in a muddy field, freezing to death in a hurricane at 9.30am this morning for a bloody kids sports day - I thought I would drop by and moan about the weather!!

See you tomorrow then!
Oooh can't wait! :O)
x

Trac said...

haha - just noticed Cream calling it 'your' weather!

So it's all your fault then!!?
x

lettuce said...

oh i think you've been here for long enough, Cream, to be allowed to join in the group moan

yes Reya! well, no, not quite sunshine - but almost no rain!!!!

yes, i accept responsibility Trac. After putting out the washing, new water butts is the next best way to ensure rain.

Pod said...
